一向地中海气候的英国,最近也遭受了冰雪天气的袭击。英国苏格兰高地昨晚最低温跌到摄氏零下22.3度,逼近南极的摄氏零下22.9度。苏格兰高地Altnaharra村昨晚气温降到摄氏零下22.3度,刷新前一天本森市( Benson)的摄氏零下18度低温纪录。
今天,英国的气温约在摄氏零度到零下10度,英格兰最冷的地区是大曼彻斯特市的摄氏零下16.4度;威尔斯最冷是在Synnybridge,只有摄氏零下14.5度;北爱尔兰地区以Lough Fea最冷,气温在摄氏零下11度。
据英国气象局说,伦敦市中心气温达摄氏零下1.2度,相对之下较为温暖。
据报道,本周仍将是酷寒的天气,今天英格兰东北部地区及东安格利亚(EastAnglia),都将出现雪雨。
今天有数千所学校仍停课,如果下周再不开始恢复上课,部分重要的入学资格考试将无法举行,许多学生将受到影响。
欧洲之星火车昨天发生班车卡在隧道的事故后,今天取消部分班次,而且直到周日(10日)都将无法恢复正常。
欧洲之星呼吁旅客,如果不是很重要的行程,建议取消或延后。
由于积雪地区很多,部分地方政府已面临融雪用的粗盐不敷使用的窘境,中央政府正考虑那些是优先需要使用粗盐的地区。
他说,两家粗盐制造商已24小时不停地努力生产,政府也向海外订购,但今年冬天的气候十分不寻常,才会造成短缺。
统计资料指出,自去年圣诞节以来,因天气严寒,已造成22人死亡。

Dear Student,
You will soon be embarking on one of the most important trips of your life i.e. coming to the ICWS to study. Some of you may have already heard that the UK is facing some unusual cold weather conditions including snow, frost and ice. To ensure that you have a safe and pleasant journey following your arrival in the UK, ICWS would like you read the following information:
1. DRESS WARMLY – wear several layers of thin clothing during your flight, for example a shirt, blouse or tee shirt followed by a jumper or cardigan. Make sure you that you have a coat or jacket to put on top of these along with a hat, scarf and pair of gloves when you arrive in the UK. Make sure you keep a spare jumper or cardigan in your hand luggage in case you should find the weather too cold on your arrival.
2. EAT WELL – make sure you eat hot meals during your journey and drink plenty of hot drinks. When you arrive in the UK make sure that you continue to do the same.
3. PLAN YOUR ROUTE BEFORE LEAVE – Make sure you know how you are going to get from the airport to Swansea. Below is a list of useful telephone numbers and website addresses for UK travel companies:

5. WALKING ON ICE – If you arrive to freezing weather conditions please make sure that you take care when walking. Don’t run or rush, walk steadily and stay clear of ice.
